As an atheist, I'm certainly no expert on what the (non-existent) 'God' is meant to have created but, in an attempt to understand the rubbish that others believe in, I have read both the Bible and the Qur'an reasonably thoroughly. I can't recall any references to the creation of the rest of the universe. So why do you assume that the Earth came first?
Anyway, as a maths graduate (with a specialism in statistics), I'd have to challenge your assumption that there are "a whole pile of planets and stuff with nothing on them". Statistically it's likely that there are billions of other planets supporting life. Further it's statistically likely that we're among the lowest life forms in the universe. (i.e. most 'aliens' would probably see us in the same way that we see an amoeba).
Hmmm Chris, speaking as a fellow atheist, and one who would welcome evidence of life on other planets, if its statistically likely that other more sophisticated life forms exist, then why haven't they contacted us?!
I don't think the Bible stipulates when he created other planets. He might have created all the earths together. And as pointed out, we don't know they've got nothing on them.
Well Dixie(if that is your real name name(joke)), we can all agree that we know of no person from beyond our own little world, and anyone who would claim to have encountered a being from beyond here would be deemed "silly", where is the basis for other existence?
I can't see the relevance of asking, as DixieGal does, from which 'seat' you are asking the question. Regardless of the teaching of any religion, the fact is the earth wasn't created before the rest of the universe. Compared to other areas of the universe, the earth is a relatively young planet, so the question is flawed.
As for beings from other planets visiting us, I think they have, and I believe 'God' was one of them.
"we can all agree that we know of no person from beyond our own little world, and anyone who would claim to have encountered a being from beyond here would be deemed "silly", where is the basis for other existence? "
Presumably you apply the same logic to the existence of gods. If so, you are an atheist, not an agnostic. If you don't apply the same logic, then you first need to get yourself some sort of consistent belief system before you start querying the minutiae.
