I find this absolutely shocking!

No question just a bit of early morning venting!

TCL Mumping, Really? Where did that quote come from? As far as I can see from the link Sherminator posted, the customer was told to come back the next day, which does not constitute directing the customer to an alternative source.
TCL Mumping, shame on you. You picked your words carefully there, didn't you? You even managed to chop the end of the quote off because it doesn't suit your purposes. Let's see what else it said.

//Whilst this occurs infrequently it affects all pharmacy contractors, not just Lloydspharmacy. It also creates the potential for conflict, as pharmacy contractors within their contracts with PCTs are obliged to dispense all legitimate NHS prescriptions. //

The article also says ......

//An investigation by Lloydspharmacy on Duke Street, Park, where Janine Deeley was refused her prescription, is ongoing.//

//We are however reviewing our internal procedures and guidance to ensure that our customers have access to the services they need while respecting the beliefs of individuals.//

This woman's actions were clearly not in line with company policy, despite the half quote you gave of the spokesman attempting to make at least some politically correct noises, and the issue is far from resolved, as you would have us believe it is. Quite simply, she was wrong.
Good try, TCL, but no cigar.
I was not an employee of a business which I knew, before I took the post, would require me to promote religion. I was in the position of a street-trader who had an absolute right to decide what to put on his stall and what not.
One of the items on my stall had a label saying "I will make you a film but I will not promote religion. Take it or leave it." The customer chose to take it.

Sorry just got back to this and thanks for the all the debate.

This for me has to be the last straw in respecting other peoples beliefs.
If I can go get a thousand nutters to join me I can make my own religion and make up whatever rules I like and then by law you will have to respect them and adhere to them. The whole system has to be stopped! No religious beleif should come into it at all!
its a personal belief system and that should be the end of it! -like smoking! in California! You should only be allowed to do it in your own home!
naomi24 you said “This woman's actions were clearly not in line with company policy” if you know their ‘phone number I suggest you call them and call a halt to their ongoing investigation and save them all that time and effort. In the meantime, can you point out the policy she broke and in what way(s) she did it?
Jno- 'If people choose to live far from shops, that's their choice'-you do make me laugh! What The Funicular? Perhaps I shouldn't live there,it's only got one chemist within 2 miles and they may refuse to give me my prescriptions! Are you crazy or what?
If you get a job in a pharmacy then it is your job to give out prescriptions. You wouldn't get a job in an abetoire if you were a vegetarian, you wouldn't become a surgeon if you were a Jehovas Witness would you?
For heaven's sake, this woman should be fired for not doing her job,her religion is irrelevant, and you are completely missing the point.
religious tw*ats imposing their sh*t on others
suzie1, if I express an opinion am I forcing that opinion on YOU? For example, if I were to say there is no need to use expletives, am I forcing that opinion on you?
TCL you are entitled to an opinion, just like me............Ur not forcing it on me...lol 'U' couldn't!!!! Anyway I think Britain is putting up with too much of this nonsense it has to stop now, before something else silly comes up in the press, its the first I ever heard of this happen in pharmacies..that's my last thought
TCL Mumping, you shot yourself in the foot with your own link, and sarcasm isn't going to make your argument any more valid. As Chakka says, good try, but you get no cigar.

Hi Shermi, I agree absolutely that religious belief shouldn't come into it. As I said in the first place, she shouldn't have applied for the job if she felt that strongly about handing out contraceptive pills because that, amongst other things, is what pharmacies do, and this particular company is obliged, under contract, to dispense all legitimate NHS prescriptions. I'd be willing to bet that she didn't speak up about her religious convictions at her job interview.

Garnesh, maybe jno gets her meat and vegetables from farms in the city.
Sorry, I misspelt your name, ganesh.
"This woman's actions were clearly not in line with company policy" what is your evidence?
Np..I mis-spelt abattoir (and I never wrote what the 'funicular' either)
i agree with what naomi said
TCL Mumping, don't you understand your own link? Give it up for goodness sake. She was wrong - and so are you.
wrong wrong wrong
If it is so clear, point it out to me, what is the problem?
TCL Mumping, are you sure you're quite well? There is no argument. The company is obliged, under contract, to dispense all legitimate NHS prescriptions. This woman refused to do that. Got it?
The company may be but as per the Code on Ethics and Standards, SHE is not-got it?
