Im not gonna lie this is partly aimed at Keyplus-Just wanted to get that outta the way now so no one thinks I have any hidden agenda.

Ok Keyplus(and others who believe in a certain part of religion) you say that your book has 'evidence' as to why its right and others are wrong. Now you all have different books with different 'evidence'....what if there was a new religious book discovered that had more evidence in it that any of the existing ones? would you change what you believed to match the evidence supported in this new book?

If not why not?

holy books don't provide evidence in the legal sense, just arguments. If you find an argument convincing, you'll accept it. People do change religions when they find new arguments even more convincing, but others conclude that the new argument isn't sufficient to change their opinion.

An example of someone switching churches is Tony Blair - a model anyone would wish to follow?
people are converting all the time.

all that proves is that they are human and can change their mind as and when they fel like it.
Good question, But I must say this question will not stay to just simple yes or no (I am sure about that). First of all let me quickly (without going into details) tell you why I believe my religion is right. Muslims claim to have original Quran present in museums today. Neither Jews nor Christians can claim that. Bible was not given to Jesus (pbuh) in Greek. Being a Muslim I must believe in Bible but if it is original. There are so many contradictions in Bible today even after so many revised editions. Prominent Christian Scholars agree with that as they do not have logical explanation. Whereas Quran has no contradiction, few may believe otherwise but logical explanations are there and I know many would still not agree and that is normal.

Now to your original question as with more of the above I do not want to change the subject of the matter. I do not believe there can be one single book talking about almost all of the aspects of human life apart from Quran (again many will never agree and that is normal and have even been mentioned in Quran itself). However having said that if there is something better than that (as you mentioned) then I will have no hesitation whatsoever in changing my mind. And I must say (and you would see soon) that many would not even agree with me and I have no better words to admit or put this forward.

Ankou is there any particular reason you try and derail every single one of my threads?

I know people are converting, I dont know WHY they are converting! if you cant add anything dont post on my threads!
i can think of many books that are better than the quran.
its a rather subjective argument. i doubt you'd accept anything as being better, even if it demonstrably was.
my point was that people of one religion might read the bible or the quran and convert to that religion. to them it is a new book and they have changed their belief to match that book. its what you asked in your question.

Have to say Keyplus your answer suprised me(in a good way!) The reason i asked is that what I tried to show is how the scientific process works. You have someone with a book that shows a set of scientific principles that seem to fit. But at any time someone can come along and totally out do that with more or different evidence! Science is a process of finding something out and then they try to prove it wrong!

A scientist should always be open to having everything he beleives pulled out from under him whne new evidence is discovered. That is why Stephen Hawkings has now completely changed his mind. Now you can argue all you want that it is flawed and what do you really know to be true if it all changes?

But there are so many constants in science that you can believe in gravity and air and the like as so many technologies(that work) are based on those existing scientific principles!
sherminator, did you have drafted before keyplus had even replied ?
Question Author
no? why?
Sherminator – Is there any particular reason that you want anyone to stop posting by saying that they have nothing good to share. You are firing these words at Ankou who has made a good point and on the other thread (below this one) you said exactly same thing about me. Or is it that you do not like people who do not agree with what you say?
Question Author
not at all Keyplus-my favourite thing about this site is people not agreeing with me.

But every post that i put on he/she seems more interested in ridiculing me for the threads i put on here. Rather than contributing.
It just gets tiresome and detracts from the good conversation we were having.
i have not ridiculed you.

if so, where ?
Question Author
maybe not ridicule but you do try derail just bout every one of my threads! this was obvioulsy a question to religious people as i cannot understand there mindset and all you say is that people do convert?

well thank you ankou, really appreciate the input!
///i can think of many books that are better than the quran.

Please give me ONLY one book that covers all aspects of life the way Quran does. And I give you my words that not only I would read that but would accept every bit if that is better than Quran as I am sure whatever a good book would tell me will never take me away from what Quran has already told.
exactly keyplus. you've just proved my point.
But don’t you think that even if someone has ridiculed you (if you believe so) then it is again a mere disagreement and they may have a reason for that. But you should try your best to rectify or change their thinking. That happens to me day in day out and I do appreciate people here who push me as that has given a deep insight into my own religion and I have no hesitation in saying that perhaps I was born in a Muslim family and had so many un-answered question that now has been answered and now I can claim that my believe does not only depend whatever my parents put into my mind. So in simple words one must be able to face challenges as they only give you reasons to find the truth.
I might have proved your point but you can still name me a book you believe is better.
I remember that Ann Widdecombe moved from CoE to Catholicism without much fuss. If a follower of Islam tried to to do the same, and change their religion, there are some places where that might earn them a martyrs crown.
Question Author
Keyplus i just always have had the opiion that he/she disagreed with me more than my posts!

Which is frustrating when A) Ankou is an athiest as well

and B he's bloody intelligent and could contribute something thoughtful but just wants to belittle my threads.
where on earth has Ankou belittled or ridiculed this thread? He's answered your question, as have I. It's perfectly possible that he is a former believer (most people in this country are brought up as believers) and is well qualified to answer.
