Are there best before dates on Holy Communion wafer packets? Catholics believe in transubstantiation i.e that really IS the flesh and blood of Christ (not just a representation of it). So is it 2000 year old Jesus's flesh they are eating, or current Jesus's flesh? Is it Jesus's flesh when it's being made in the factory? Or when the priest blesses it? How does the priest know he is really doing that properly? Can paedophile priest's have the power to change the wafers into real flesh (if so, how come? as they're sinners, not real priests) So the people who've been taking communion from sinners, haven't really recieved Communion afterall. Can you get drunk on a bottle of Communion wine, if so, how? As it's really blood isn't it?
I expect 95% of Catholics don't even know they're supposed to believe it ACTUALLY IS the body and blood of Christ.

with respect to catholics on here (and indeed all around the world) this thread did nearly make me pee my pants
There is more than one way of skinning a cat. I'm hoping to bring all the atheists and agnostics who frequent AB back to the bosom of Mother Church and salvation
What are you offering by way of temptation Sandy? ;o)
I think I need offer no more than the truth as is written in scripture.. The help of God is nearer than the door.
If only you'd get down on your knees...
And pray, I meant. Down on your knees and pray. ;-)
Ha ha! Now you see I was tempted for a moment there .... and then you went and spoilt it. ;o)
But if you did pray, your prayers might be answered
There you are - you see! It's only 'might'! That God makes firm, definite promises and then his emissaries, like you, tell me it's 'might'. I mean, come on, a girl doesn't need 'might' - she needs security, positivity, someone she can depend on. He's no flipping good if it's only 'might'. Cooo - you almost had me there. Had me hymn book out and everything.
Naomi... god cannot answer all our prayers because some are contradictory and some are mutually exclusive, do you think god is some kind of miracle worker? he only 'created the heaven and the earth..' Jesus did the miracles and as we now know he has been eaten by the catholics,it must have pi$$ed off the protestants. Still I can now see that they have something to protest about.
The hymnal is a lovely thing. Kneel and pray with it in your hands and you might be surprised by God's love flowing all over you.
Hallelujah Sister!

You carry the banner and I'll be right behind with the big bass drum.

Sandy .. that was an ancient egyptian religion, not christianity, but then you never said it was christianity did you? nothing to do with seminaries then?
Haaaaaaaaaa! Oh how funny! Brilliant! I'm delighted to say you're all potty! :o)))

(Jesus has been eaten by the Catholics - classic - haaaaaaaaaaaaa!).
sorry late to the debate but i understand transubstansiation and it's boll0x
No it's not. At that moment we believe that the bread and wine have been changed into the body and blood of our dear saviour, Jesus.
yes you believe it, but has it? be honest
also late into the post, only read last few. sandy its very difficult to explain our own beliefs to anyone not receptive to them, at the end of the day, respecting each others beliefs or lifestyle is what is important. imo
Well if Jomifl is to be believed - and we have no reason to doubt him - it seems that Jesus is no more because the Catholics have eaten him.
True, anne, very true. I'm off to say my prayers, you'll all get a mention-especially the fair-weather agnostics and atheists- and then to bed.
All the Catholics I know of know that the wafer (bread) and wine given at communion represents the body and blood of Christ. Even some non-Catholics know that too. No disrespect meant but you are talking utter rubbish.
