Mouse Problems..

can anyone help me? I have always used a wired computer mouse but then a couple of weeks ago bought a wireless one. It's a Logitech M185. It has been working fine. When I closed my laptop down last night, I had one of those automatic updates that ran through before shutting down. Now today the wireless mouse isn't working. So, I thought I would switch back to the Texet wired mouse but for some reason that is not working either!! I can't get on with the orbital mouse on the laptop keyboard & I'm hoping someone will be able to enlighten me as to what might have gone wrong. I am using Windows 8.1 with Firefox browser. thanks.

Unplug the little USB attachment that is with the mouse, then plug it in and re check that the mouse is being recognised on the laptop as a device.

Why oh why did you not install w10 on the lappie?

If it is not showing in devices ask the lappie to search for devices with the usb attachment plugged in and the mouse turned on.

My problem with the wireless mouse is not that it doesn't work, but how long the batteries last. Bought my first one 3 months ago. Cost £12. Came with no batteries. Instructions said 1 x AA battery. Turned out it needed 2 x AAA batteries. Working life, 3 weeks! Gave up and bought another one on Amazon. Cost £6, 1 x AA battery, working life, 18 months.

I have had my wireless mouse for the lappie for 4 years and only changed the batteries once, last winter. Hewlett Packard plum colour same as the lappie:)) I do though try to remember to switch it off when I'm not using it.

Mine automatically switches off if not used for 8 minutes.

No jackdaw it goes to sleep but there s still some drain on the batteries......I think.

My new one doesn't have an on/off switch.

Try plugging something else (such as a memory stick) into the USB port which you've been using for the mouse connections. If it's not recognised you'll know that it's a problem with the USB port. If so, let us know and we can try to guide you from there.

Appears the problem was the mouse which I've only had for a few weeks. All ok now after a replacement. Thanks for all your help
