I've now had 2 emails telling me that my TV licence has expired. They want the usual bank details etc.
They didn't spell my name correctly and spelt licence incorrectly.
I had a phone call from a chap called Steve (with an Asian accent) last week. One of us was in a grumpy mood. I told him that I was busy and he should try conning money out someone else. He told me that would be a dishonest thing to do. No tihs Sherlock!
I had one last month and was suspicious as I pay by Direct Debit, then I saw thespelling mistakes. Also had the Amazon telephone scam, BT Broadband telephone scam and a dodgy NatWest email too! We must have reached the top of the list!
They prey on the elderly and unaware. Had a friend (over 80) who was caught by the Microsoft scam. He was mortified that he had paid the £140 for two years. Luckily they didn’t clear his account. Another neighbour was conned out of £5000 with the ‘your account has been hacked’ scam, again, over 80, but had run her own business for 70 years. It is the humiliation as well as the money.
I've had five phone calls in two days telling me they're going to cut off my computer in 24 hours. I've found that if I don't say anything, even hello, it doesn't trigger Ms Robot's voice.
