Pronunciation....
You might think this should be in Sport, but bear with me. Watching a Euro Qualifier t'other night, the commentator said "that was a good move from Tookeeyer". But I couldn't see a player called Tookeeyer. He then said that "Tookeeyer defended well there", but where is this Tookeeyer? At half time, he said "...so at the break, it's Croatia 0 Tookeeyer 1." Ah! Turkey! Why do they do this? Oh, that's how they say it in their own country. But that doesn't work either. Who says Deutchland for Germany? Italia for Italy? Espana for Spain? Paree for Paris? Roma for Rome? Munchen for Munich? Do you get it? Something strange going on folks!
