that the world cup refs are being a bit mean this year? Winston reid just got a yellow card at about 93 minutes for taking his shirt off after he scored. They'll be banning the goal celebrations next.

For the past several years, a player taking his shirt off in celebration of a goal has earned a yellow card. So they are all well aware that it's going to happen.

But good on NZ for persistence.

And the referees get assessed after every game so, if a player removed his shirt and ref didn't give him a yellow card, that would count against him and might jeopardise the possibility of his officiating at such a high level in the future...

wasnt it good that they scored then, as I thought they were the better side anyway. I just think the refs are overdoing it a bit this year, england game especially, he was given them for some and not given them on worse.

There's complaints every week in the Premier League about refereeing decisions - it just shows that it's the same everywhere.

And a draw was probably a fair result for that game.

The shirt-sponsers have a lot to do with this............
At the moment a bloke with 'your' name on his shirt (for which you have paid a pretty penny) scores and all the TV cameras zoom in the last thing you want to see is him take his shirt off thereby removing a few very valuable moments advertising.........

* Deliberately leaving the field of play without the referee's permission.

......are all yellow card offences which IMO have no place in the game of football. They are pathetic, petty, 'schoolboy' rules

They do not affect the result of the game, so how can they carry the same 'punishment' as a bad foul, a cynical foul or a foul which prevents a goal scoring opportunity

A player committing 2 of the minor offences ultimately receives the same punishment as one who breaks an opponents leg or punches/headbutts an opponent - they receive a red card and are both sent from the field of play

It's not right

What next? A yellow card for having a dodgy hairstyle or wearing your shirt outside your shorts?

Being sent off for a second bookable offence is normally punished with a one match ban. A straight red card normally attracts a three match ban.

The players only have themselves to blame. If they weren't a bunch of conniving cheats then a referee wouldn't be necessary. As ye sew, so shall ye reap.
