Well said, seekerz. I just think that it's truly superb that a Brit has finally won a Grand Slam, the first time since most of us were born? I will always feel very sorry for Tim Henman who didn't quite make it but who tried so hard for the whole nation - as Murray does.

There has always been banter between English and Scots - but it does have limits which shouldn't be overstepped. Let's just celebrate that at long last we have a tennis player up there with the very best? Don't carp about his success.

Wonderful achievement, Andy! Superb performances from both players. As regards "the first time since most of us were born", it's even the first time since I was born and I'll be 75 next week!

We are ALL very proud of our boy Murray...the family is very well liked and respected locally..Andy is and always has been very shy and not given to waving his own flag..he was also very traumatised as a child hiding under headmasters desk whilst his classmates were slaughtered in the gym...sour grapes Wharton..go get a life...

Come on, you're skirting around the issue. Murray has been castigated by people south of the border because of having been falsely accused of hating the English, and in my opinion they have probably done so to try to mask their own dislike of Scots? (Expecting a few bombs after that one!)

His interviews are very articulate, patient, and - win or lose - always very generous to his opponents. He does come across as being a bit shy, he isn't 'flash', nor does he court controversy. In fact, there are quite of those traits which could be also attributed to Tim Henman - and who hates Tim? Nobody, of course.

I'm convinced that Murray would not have received some of this treatment were he English. (More bombs?)

But that is true - it's just what "also ran" means: he didn't win. Great for Murray, though, a superb performance.

Have a look for "Murray" through the search box... you'll find plenty of people who've spent years moaning about how he hates the English, how he never smiles and so on. They won't necessarily have changed their minds, unfortunately.

I don't think that based on many of the AB comments which I've seen on here over the years slagging him off and making much of his Scottishness, my assumptions aren't very wide of the mark regarding certain posters?

So, I'm definitely not trying to 'feel better' by making those observations, and I'm sorry that you seem to be very defensive - no offence meant.

I must disagree about Henman - he always had rapturous support at Wimbledon, i.e. 'Henman Hill', hysterical hype every time the poor guy played? But I must admit that he certainly never had anything detrimental said about him - rightly, too - than Andy Murray has, so there just has to be more to it than "I don't think he does well in interview"?

He's literally on telly as I type being interviewed and the guy is extremely bright and articulate - what more can he do?

Anyway, cheer up - I didn't realise I'd hit a raw nerve - sorry!
