The EFL resumes tonight and the honour of opening the new season goes to newly promoted Sheff Wed and newly relegated Southampton. Pointless looking at any stats because this fixture hasn't been played for 13 years., the two sides being in different divisions during that time.
Obviously neither side will want to begin the new season with a defeat and i expect a very nervy opening half hour or so - which could lead to mistakes at the back. Perhaps even a free kick in the range of Ward-Prowse?
This is not a confident punt but, being over £200 ahead on the Epic Odds bets, i'm playing with WH's money. Besides, it only takes a second to score a goal and there are, um, er............................ loads of seconds in 45 minutes plus:-))
Usual £10 max stake applies.

But the opening fixture next week of the Premier League brings to mind the last time I went to Turf Moor. It was 1976. Burnley v Man City. If you were there, or recall that game, there was one memorable incident. City were awarded a penalty. Can't remember who Burnleys' keeper was. Was it Adam Blacklaw? Was he still playing then? Anyway up steps Dennis Tueart. The keeper saves it. But the ref said the keeper moved. They weren't allowed to move before the kick back then. Up steps Tueart again. The keeper saves again. The ref said he moved again. Up steps Tueart and the ball went sailing over the bar and out of the ground. It finished 1-1. I think. That incident has won me many a pint with City fans about Tueart missing 3 penalties in a game!
Here you are 10C. Apparently Tueart scored his second attempt but that, too, was disallowed (encroachment perhaps?) ?The gam did end all square, but goal-less;

Yes, Captain. I realised i hadn't stated what the bet was roughly when the goal was scored- though there was a huge hint. Anyone interested in having a go would have discovered what the bet was as soon as they logged on to the site.
My excuse is that i was absorbed with trying to find winners at Goodwood when the email came through:-)
