Why does everyone hate Manchester United?
Can anyone explain please? I'm not bothered either way, I just wondered.

Would they be the same fans that filled the ground every other week in the 2nd division that gave United the highest average gate of over 58,000.
Would they be the same ones filling up grounds up and down the country in the 2nd division

Clokey - Of course Man U has many proper fans that are loyal, i never said that they didnt, thats a ridiculous thing to think! Im saying that as they are the most sucessful team of now they have the most glory hunter fans just as Liverpool did back in their heyday, it stands to reason. I was only submitting another reason why they are hated and other posters have also said the same thing. If my club were the best in the country ( i can only wish!) they too would, i expect have glory hunter fans, its logical, i think?!
OK Ric Just a brief outline. The rivalry between Manchester & Liverpool can be traced as far back as the US civil war & that was before MUFC LFC MCFC & EFC were even formed.
The port of Liverpool dealt with the slave trade & provided ships & goods for the South while Manchester & Lancashire (King Cotton) who supported the North & were against the slave trade. You also rightly mention the lack of trading because of the canal issue.

I hate Utd probably out of jealousy and a bit of bitterness as to how they seemingly get away with murder, I'm most probably blinkered in this view but that doesn't quash the flames of hatred! They do have a hell of a lot of glory-hunting fans who seemingly have very little knowledge of the game but still try to make out they know what they're talking about and that the fact they support Utd indicates they know what they're talking about.
10 Clarion. I also think the media have a lot to answer for the way they portray Man Utd sometimes, as being the only club in England.
the TV pundits also make a contribution. If a team wins 5-0 yet Utd are shown first on MOTD even if they only win 1-0.
Even when they lose its treated as a national disaster
What everybody else has said on here all these aspects play a major part.

Always disliked them, 1. in the days before the EPL when they won nothing their fans (based anywhere other than Manchester it seems) went on and on about being the biggest club in the world (tell that to Barca, Real Madrid, Milan or Celtic to name just a few) so deserved to win the title! 2. Tommy Docherty, as a Derby fan they sacked him and we got lumbered and still haven't recovered from the damage he did, why couldn't they have kept him would have been in Conference by now! :))

no , I support.....or used to support (different to being a fan) Leeds united.
Now, Fergie has proved to be a great manager , but when Leeds beat his team to the old 1st division, his behaviour was disgraceful. He couldn't find it within him to accept his team were beaten to the title by a better team.
