you can't retract it in the sense you have tried to explain. you have already given a statement which can be used if the cps wish to prosecute him and that is out of both of your control. it sounds like he was quite 'lively' and has assaulted an officer which the police and cps will pursue strongly. as he has been drinking for a while and has had problems, he needs to straighten himself out asap, stop drinking, get support for that and anger management. if he shows he is changing and remorseful for his actions on that night, it will be viewed more favourably in court. he will most probably be convicted and you may be called as a witness in court unless he admits the offence and pleads guilty. it sounds like he needs to grow up, start taking more control over his life and behaviour and pleading guilty if he did assault the officer would be a good start. nothing you do will change this outcome - you also need to deal with the restrictions imposed on your husband and the situation you are now in. trying to retract a statement to 'fix things' will get you nowhere.
