/// Meanwhile Rio Ferdinand defied his manager’s wishes by refusing to wear a T-shirt backing the ‘Kick It Out’ campaign. ///
/// But despite United kitman Albert Morgan standing at the tunnel entrance with the T-shirts, Ferdinand refused and warmed up before yesterday’s game against Stoke in his normal United training top.///
/// Ferguson stated: “We are disappointed Rio didn’t wear it.
“Every player in the country should have adhered to the PFA request.
“He has let us down. We will deal with it, don’t worry about
that.” ///

Many others chose to ignore the promotional yesterday as well. It should be a personal matter and it should be up to them if they wear or don't wear the T-Shirt.
Many people believe that the campaign is weak, toothless and merely paying lip service to the problem. And that it was abysmal in the John Terry case (he finally admitted his guilt this week by the way).
So Rio Ferdinand and others take the view of why promote something that you do not believe to be doing a good job. To do so would be hypicritical.

By the way AOG - if Ferdinand was to be punished by the PFA, then couldn't it be argued that they should've punished all the payers who refused to take part in the anti-homophobia campaign a coupe of years ago:

What's your stance on this?
I'm assuming that you believe Ferdinand should be punished somehow (because you asked "What should Rio Ferdinand's punishment be?", rather than "Should Rio Ferdinand be punished for this?")

Apparently the F.A, The Football League and The Premier League are contributing a TOTAL sum of £330,000 to the Kick It Out Campaign!
Doesn't that show how seriously they are NOT taking it with the amount of money they have?
Fergie also tends to answer a lot of questions with "Don't worry about that."
As if that's the end of it so don't ask again!
Rio, like him or not, should not be punished for doing something he believed in. Whether Fergie gave him permission or not.

I wondered when you would manage to incorporate a homophobic issue into this, especially when gay footballers refuse to come out of the closet.
No I am about fed up with these PC issues coming into the game, these over-paid Prima Donnas are spoiling the game with their touchy feelings, they should lean to get on with what they are paid for, instead of bothering themselves with what the crowds are shouting.
Where there are mass crowds, things sometimes get heated and one cannot control what they are libel to shout out, for example they could be making insulting remarks against a ginger haired player or some other player who has upset them perhaps for playing dirty for instance, or whoop to put an opposing player off from taking a penalty or aggressively insulting the referee for what they have decided was a wrong decision that he has made.
It's all part of this type of game.
You are never going to get a football crowd to just sit still and clap occasion, just like they do at Wimbledon, and no matter what measures are brought out.

It was Ferguson who said, "“He has let us down. We will deal with it, don’t worry about that.” not I.
But yes if he is guilty of refusing to obey his Manager's and Club's request, then yes he should be punished, but how that is a matter for Ferguson.

Why not answer the question?
Is it because you agree that Ferdinand should e punished or not.
I've read through your response a couple of times, and I'm not sure what you're getting at.
Should Ferdinand be punished, and if not, why did you ask 'what his punishment should be'.
If you think he doesn't deserve punishment, why did you raise the question?

Is this one of those occasions where you may have 'posted in haste, and now are free to regret at leisure'.
Do you not think my question about the footballers refusing to back the anti-homophobia campaign is valid here?
Please, please, please try to do me the courtesy of actually answering my question, as I have politely done for you (your post of 14:17 wasn't really an answer, more of a circumvention.
