Does Anyone Actually Know

Does anyone actually know when Britains big freeze will finally end? This is the worst weather I can ever remember and it appears to be never ending.

the Met Office says:

There remain signs of a transition from the current colder than average conditions to more typical conditions for the time of year taking place during mid-April. This would leave the rest of the month with nearer average temperatures, albeit still with a risk of overnight frost.

We hat a lovely day yesterday, lots of sunshine in Devon, I havent even seen snow yet this year;-(

even with a battery of supercomputers, the climate is so complicated that it's impossible to accurately predict for more than a few days ahead (and even that tends to not be accurate quite often)

Still have patches of snow on my grass from last week .The bit of sun we had has not shifted it .Just gone on long enough now.

I did read somewhere that the Jet stream is not in its usual place, its too far south and that is why we have this cold weather. Until it moves back to where it should be, unfortunately I think we are stuck with with it.

Of course no one 'knows'. They can make guesses - some educated, some ignorant, but they don't know

They can`t get it right from 1 day to another very often So what hope "long range" forecasting ?

Them there mediterraneans have filched our jet stream. We should be knocking on their door, asking if we can have it back.

As for the accuracy of the Met. Office weather forecasting - I have usually found them to be pretty much on the money, certainly when I can be bothered to mentally check off the weather forecast from the day before with what I actually see.

I wonder if it is still true that one can do better assuming tomorrow will be the same as today ? Probably not I guess. Longer range forecasts are out of the question though. I think the big freeze is due to end about 2017 ?

As I understand it, the North Altantic Drift can go either above Scotland or up the English Channel. It tends to be true that north of it is cold, south of it warmer. So when it's flipped south to go up the Channel we get the cold weather.

Our milder weather has been diverted to Cyprus to help them with their current difficulties. Even though we are not in the eurozone we are expected to help our European neighbours when they are in trouble.

We are to be allowed just one day of slightly milder temperatures each week (to avoid "sunshine flight" from the embattled island). These restrictions may be lifted when circumstances are more favourable.

It's been lovely here for the past few days, although did try to snow yesterday for a few minutes. Still got some lingering snow in places, but if it doesn't get any colder I won't complain.

...... just think of us poor sods that work outside in it.
I'm a window cleaner and I'm still wearing my full winter gear: 2pairs of socks, long johns, thermal vest, t shirt, fleece, jacket, hat and gloves.

If anyone complains this "summer" that's it too hot, I'll gladly cool them down by pouring my bucket of water over their head :)
