Near red running

I almost passed a red light but managed to stop my car right in the middle of the stop line.there seemed to be a camera like thing ontop of the lights. Can i b charged with red running for this or the entire car length has got to cross the stop line?

I'm not an expert, but I should think you're OK.

Technically you crossed the stop line so you ran the light. But I think the general policy is that they won't bother unless you go right over so you're probably all right. It's like the speed cameras, they can prosecute for 1mph over if they want but they usually require you to be going a bit faster.

You sure the "camera" on top of the light isn't a sensor for "off peak" traffic? It "sees" any approach cars and changes the lights accordingly (especially usefull when travelling at half 4 in the morning and you don't want to stop at a red light for 40 seconds with nothing coming the other way).

yeah i think that Greenbhoy is correct.  you cannot mistake the difference between a red light camera and a sensor.  given that it was on top of the lights suggests that it is a sensor.  The camera is a big box with a flash on it separate from the lights and there is no mistaking it.  The sensor is a small square box usually with a black front sits right on top of the lights.  You should be fine.
