I have a bet almost every day, all stakes i can afford to lose and have never gambles MORE than i can afford to lose. There is a wise old saying; You can make a small fortune from gambling, providing you begin with a large fortune.

Plenty of bookies have gone out of business.
svejk; i don't doubt that what you say may be true, but is it not more a case of small, independent bookies being 'forced' out of business by the big firms taking over our high streets?
I'll always remember walking into our local with 'the bookie'.
One lad said 'give us a tenner on that 8/1, mate'
Loudmouth sat behind us 'you can stick that in your pocket'
My mate 'Sorry'
Loudmouth 'Yeah, money for old rope, blah blah'
My mate proffered the tenner and said 'Here you are, you can take it'
Loudmouth 'Not likely, you must think I'm mad. That's 90 quid if it wins'
But you're quite right, large bookmakers can't really lose on a race. They can make less, though.
On the gambling forum on racecaller.com, someone has just posted a copy of a betting slip, struck on 10/11/2014. On it is an ante-post accumulator, stake £187.60 on the following events; Sylviniaco Conti to win the King George on 26 Dec 2-14 @ 3/1, Novak Djkovic to win 2015 Australian @ 11/8, New England Patriots to win Super Bowl 49 outright @ 6/1 and, yes, you've guessed it, Annie Power to win the Mares Hurdle on 10 Mar @ 11/10. The winnings would have been £26,198-34p. OUCH!
Ken, yes £100 double. I won £ 400 odd on a football accumulator a couple of weeks back, banked £200, and saved the rest for Cheltenham. Normally, I'd only bet fivers, but my son ( who follows the horses more than I do) has been banging on about these two for months, so I took the plunge. As I said, I couldn't make a habit of it.
paullambert; well in for having the gonads, m8. Most i placed today was £25 win on L'ami Serge in the first race but Willy Hill guaranteed stake refund as a free bet should it lose:-) Covered it with another 'special offer', this one from Ladbrokes which was double the odds on Douvan. Unfortunately there was a £10 limit on that one. Looking forward to more 'specials' tomorrow - besides the Ladbrokes extra place in the Neptune, Happy punting.
