From what I`ve read both shooting and firing are regular terms used by arrowsmiths.

I suspect that there's not a verb used as per your example.

The answer to 'Where's Dad?" would probably be "He's at archery practice" or '"He's at the archery competition"

The verb could be practising archery or you could say shooting arrows

There's an archery club very near me and I have to say I'm not sure any of them would hit a beached blue whale from 12 yards.
