No, it's not wrong. Why should they disclose details like that? Leave them alone.

'course it's not wrong, it's their business, he is not public property.
It's their own affair. Obviously they don't want the paps getting any info nor the public gawking and fulfilling a morbid fascination.
It obviously looks increasingly likely that he'll never recover and though I'm speculating would guess he's in a PVS or near to it.
As ever in such tragic cases it's ironic that he faced danger so many times on the track yet suffers the tragedy of a head injury from an innocuous fall whilst ski-ing.
Very sad for all concerned.

Cloverjo, Schumacher is a legend in F1 history and has millions of adoring fans who are anxious to know of any progress of their hero.

Do the family owe it to these fans to provide regular updates or should privacy be respected at all costs?

I couldn't agree more.
Fans would be fans of F1 then, not pursuers of a terrible and debilitating, fingers crossed, hope of recovery condition?
Yes, they're concerned for his welfare but true fans would have the decency to respect the family's wishes at this time.
after three years wouldn't it make more sense to issue a statement if there was a change in his condition?
I feel the family are entitled to their privacy. Let the fans remember him as he was.

Privacy should be respected

///Last month, it emerged that the first photograph of Schumacher since his accident was being hawked around Europe for £1million///

Is this really the scenario you want for him and his family?

no it is not wrong, they are entitled to keep it out of the public eye. Just because some ghouls want him paraded in public that's no reason to do it. Yes he's an F1 legend but I wish to remember him as he was.
Ask yourself, if he was your son or brother, would you want everyone to know all the details of his health? It's obvious that the great Schumi will never be the same again, let's leave him and his family alone.
“Do the family owe it to these fans to provide regular updates”

No

“…or should privacy be respected at all costs?”

Yes.

Mr Schumacher had retired. His accident was nothing to do with the sport that his fans followed (and even if it was I doubt my answer would be any different). Different families have different ways of dealing with the tragic situation in which they find themselves. The Schumacher clan has chosen privacy over details (and possibly photographs) of their loved one being plastered all over the papers (many of whom cannot be trusted to deal with such a matter sensitively). They don’t owe anything to anybody to do other than they please.
Sometimes you just have to shake your head and walk away.

Maybe somebody could arrange tours of mental hospitals or mortuaries for the disappointed until such time as those who think they have a right to know get their way.
I think they're keeping him alive needlessly.

Baldric //Privacy should be respected//

I am in full agreement and the scenario mentioned is grotesque.

Sadly, there are too many attempts at intrusion into privacy.
how do you know his condition sharon, are you his doctor or something?
Question Author
It is clear from the link that Michael Schumacher was a very private person and his former manager would have known that first hand and should respect the family's stance.

C'Mon.....tragedy makes news........rapes, murders, mutilated bodies, air crash sites.......many, probably most people have a morbid interest in situations and particularly when it involves a celebrity.
