Shane Warne just said on TV that once the lights go on at the Oval the ball zips across the ground more quickly! How can that be possible?

Very interesting but still doesn't explain why the lights make a difference.
Must be that somehow the lights affect perception of the speed of a delivery.

I think you're right Danny.
Maybe not cause and effect, but both are effects caused by something else. As evening comes, conditions change (air and ground damper?) causing the ball to move differently. It is also getting darker requiring the lights.
