No spoilers from me...

What a fantastic example of a sporting tournament, played down to the last ball.

Well done to England & New Zealand for a fantastic, enthralling final.

Sip.

//May not be Test Cricket, NJ...//

They should call it by another name. Any youngsters that might "get enthused" (which would be fairly short-lived anyway) will have no idea what the real game of cricket is all about.
Great that it had a wider audience,GG......and then to get that result. Bliss!
Surely it's better to try than not bother tho NJ?
Oh dear, NJ.....you are stagnating and missing so much...but thankfully you’re in the minority.
NJ, are you saying that the cricket played at clubs up and down the country on Saturdays - including at my local village ground in the Cotswolds - isn't real cricket? So what have they been playing then, these past dozens of decades?
Anyway.... the England cricket team will be at The Oval tomorrow meeting with local school children and any members of the public who wish to join them. So if you’re in the area just let The Oval know you’re happy to join them. :-)
NJ, limited overs cricket has been around since 1963 in various formats so I think you're fighting a losing battle.
I long to return to the purity of the game in the days when you had matches between one-legged men and one-armed men. Popular after the Napoleonic wars, I believe.
Long leg or short leg, Jno? Anyway wouldn’t that make LBW difficult?
No cricket thread - owzat?

Brilliant match. Well done to the victorious team and the worthy losers;)
"A one-legged batter lost his wooden leg while making a run. The leg was fielded and thrown to stump him. This was a fine point of rules as the batter's equipment had not disturbed the wicket while making the stroke but he was still given out. Notwithstanding this loss, the one-legged team won again by 103 runs.
Well done them... I'm so pleased I fell alseep.
Well I'm glad they won then, Corby!

Arky.....how could any normal person have gone to sleep with this going on.....you missed so much and you wouldn't have been sleeping had you been near my elbow!
I was busy being an Angel last night... bieng human isn't all its cracked up to be.
Well I bet you looked good in the outfit and as long as you enjoyed yourself.... ;-)
good news, England's victory demonstrates the importance of Brexit (or so thinks Rees Mogg, not unduly burdened by knowing what's going on)

What an absolute humdinger and fantastic advert for the game. Cliched I know but nobody deserved to lose that match. You'd rather take a hiding than get that close and falter at the death.

Last time I was that nervous was Sunday the 7th of August 2005, at the end of THAT Test Match, the iconic picture of Freddie shaking the hand of an absolutely distraught Brett Lee.

It augers well for the rest of the summer, which I hope can replicate in no small way the series of 2005.
i don't like cricket
i love it

Ah, we have Rees-Mogg's comment's on cricket and his derivative analogies, the Guardian's comments on the comments, and JNO's expert assessment.
