you'd think that wouldn't you but according to TCL the question isn't specific enough. So, mally, what made you think I was talking about football? Would you say that is the default?

the FIFA world cup was the only world cup in that year (there should have ben a rugby league world cup but it was postponed - other major competitions play in odd numbered years).
