Son has bought himself a Merida 700 Big Trail MTB. Had a hit of a disagreement. He thought I’d used it and altered one of the settings.The top section of the seat pole is hydraulic or pneumatic, not sure which, operated by a trigger on the left handlebar.
He’s saying the seat once set shouldn’t go down when sat on. It does. A bit of pressure and it goes down. I’ve looked at a download user manual, that covers various models. Can’t find any ref how to set up or function. Any serious bikers have any knowledge of this function TIA

Scroll down to Page 83 for details of the rear suspension. Apparently there should be some give in the suspension from unloaded to when you sit on it. As far as I can see the the handlebar control doesn't adjust the compression/spring rate other than either lock in/out the suspension.
You do need to set the compression to suit the riders weight. A few reviews on utube state the suspension is over soft.

It's not fitted with a dropper seat post.
