.........have you been watching? I've watched some of it, not a lot, I have to say but what I have seen is the low number of winning shots. Most of the points seem to be won by wearing down the opponent to the point where they either miss the court or hit the net. One game tonight in Andy Murrays' match went on for about 10 minutes and I only saw one point won with a winning shot. Seems the way rto do it these days is to wear 'em down. Boring.

I cannot agree with your theory, Clarion. I presume you are talking of singles matches rather than doubles which offer far more chances of a serve and volley type of tennis.
A winning shot will always precede a missed return and may be such a good shot so to force an error in the return which hits the net, e.g. after a drop volley or well executed lob.
I have seen some great passing shots this week but then I have watched more than 10 minutes of championship tennis. Don't ignore the aces served either.
Some of the base line play has shown the stamina of (or lack of) by those involved in long games and the second week will show which players are getting fatigued, with or without injuries.

Doubles play will obviously lend itself more to passing shots and winners due to the players proximity to the net. It's hardly a set up for baseline play is it? I hadn't forgotten the aces, but they only happen with the first shot. I too have seen some great passing shots but they have been few and far between.
Stamina and fatigue? There was me thinking the game was about skill and ability. But if that's the modern trend and people are happy with it, then that's what the game will give the punters.

Actually, I did 72 holes in a day once, when we were in Florida. It was at Remington GC, but I did use a buggy, or cart, as they say. T'was a bit naff in a way cos the course straddles a road and we had to keep crossing and going back again. But hey, it could have been worse - I could have been at work!
