TTT, A lot of F1 races are won or lost depending on how long the cars remain stationary in the pits.

what are you talking about? they are stationary for 3 seconds and it's the same more or less for everyone.

Takes a pit stop, now he's even further behind.

One lap to go, officials make a decision that puts him level, no seconds behind,on fresh tyres.

That decision gifted the championship to Verstappen. The opposite decision would have gifted the championship to Hamilton.

The race and the whole championship became nothing to do with the drivers, and everything to do with the officials. That's the problem with F1.

The correct outcome? Who cares. But it would probably have been that the guy who was leading the race by a street, when the random crash happened, won the championship. Instead it was decided by can't lose decisions from Red Bull and some poor decisions by officials.

the race should have finished under the safety car .
the fans would have accepted the result as the positionings were fair

Of course the result stands, they've made themselves look total idiots today, no need to make it any worse by admitting their faults.
As for 'new rules' for 2022 season, the military have things called Daily Orders, maybe the FIA should have Daily Rules or even Hourly Rules, all predicated on how well their chap's doing.
