Just 111 different drivers have won races that contributed to the Formula One championship in the 72 seasons since its inception in 1950. This includes winners of the Indy 500 between 1950 and 1960 as World Championship points were earned from that race even though it was not run under F1 regulations. The top seventeen of those drivers (down to Max Verstappen in =16th place with 20 wins) have won 632 (almost 60%) of them. Lewis Hamilton alone has won almost 9% of F1 races and he and Michael Schumacher have won over 18% of all F1 races between them. Only 26 different drivers have won an F1 race in the 22 seasons since 2000.

All present day F1 cars can accelerate from 0 to 100mph and brake to a stop in less that five seconds. They can do the same to 125mph and stop in around seven seconds. Under braking from high speed, the driver is subject to around 5.5g. The very best road car can manage about 1.3g.
