how far does the like of toger wood hit a ball with a driver

compared to the guys whos just specialise in hitting the ball as as far as possible

Don't know the answer, but the question sure made me laugh.

Tiger Woods, as well as being the best golfer on the planet, is also one of the long hitters, which generally means that he's quite capable of driving a ball in the region of 300yards, or even further on occasions.
The difference between him and those guys who can whack a golf ball a proverbial "mile" is that the all-round game of Woods and the other top golfers is far superior. In other words, they can also putt, chip, pitch etc phenomenally well too.

according to pgatour.com, for 2007 (last full year Tiger played), he was 12th in driving distance at 302.4 yards per drive. The leader was Bubba Watson (who?) at 315.2.

He was merely 152nd in driving accuracy (hitting the fairway) which does indeed indicate how good he was at the rest of the game - he was first in greens in regulation!

He also led the PGA tour in scoring average by a full stroke; in contrast the #2 player was a mere 0.03 strokes ahead of #3..

Playing around some more with the stats at pgatour.com, because it's fun, I found Bubba Watson finished 103rd in scoring average in 2007. The two longest drives hit that year (437 and 435 yards!) were hit by a guy named Brett Wetterich, who finished 142nd in scoring average. Drive for show but putt for dough!

It was Tiger who introduced the 'long drive' that made many top golf courses re-organise their drives to accommodate this method of playing.

The long drive specialists hit the ball over 400 yards in competitions but they are mainly muscle men who just concentrate on distance.
