Greatest player of the current era?

Food for thought ...

(1) Federer has only lost 5 major Finals ...
All to Nadal.

(2) They have played each other 20 times.
Nadal leads 13-7.

(3) They have played in 7 Grand Slam Finals.
Nadal leads 5-2.

(4) They have played in 16 Finals altogether.
Nadal leads 11-5.

(5) Nadal is almost 5 years younger than Federer.

So I'm thinking ... Nadal must be the better player.

How about ... the past year ...

... when Federer has only been able to win anything whatsoever if Nadal has been absent with injury, or if another player has stopped Nadal getting to the Final?

... where he has not had to face Nadal in any of them.

If one swallow doesn't make a summer ... and given that Nadal has consistently beaten Federer on all surfaces ... !!

You see, although Federer has won a record number of Slams, he won a lot of them before Nadal was around.

So Nadal is already dominant over Federer, and will still be around when Federer retires.

This is a weird discussion really.....JJ is saying that if Nadal had been around earlier Federer would not have won all his slams.........er if Federer had been around earlier Sampras would not have won all his......if Sampras had been around earlier McEnroe and Becker would have been stuffed..........

I think Federer is a better player than Sampras was - Sampras was a baseline slugger with a good serve - Nadal is similar -Federer has more qualities than Sampras and Nadal
