entering as eng/gb/uk
1) why is it that in different competitions, we are entered either as England/ Great Britain/ Uk?
2) plus we haven't even got a gb flag, we end up using the uk flag, couldn't a knew gb flag be made up, from the uk flag, but without the n.i. cross, and with a little dragon in the middle perhaps to represent Wales?

Mollykins- are you saying :
(a) there is already a recognised flag for Great Britain which excludes the Northern Ireland saltire
or
(b) it would be easy to create a Great Britain flag by removing teh saltire from the Union Flag?
Wales doesn't seem to be represented on the UK flag or on your suggested GB flag.
Anyway- is UK simply GB + NI? I seem to remember it's not quite as simple as that. For example where does Isle of Man fit in? And Jersey?
And then there's the British Isles which covers GB, NI and Eire!
It's all seems a bit of a mess. I bet the vast majority of Britisk/UK citizens don't know the difference between UK, GB and Bristish Isles

As this group of islands is so small, we would, generally not be able to make much of an impact on the world stage if every individual nation, baliwick, etc. were to enter on its' own (indeed whether places would be open/available to individual representitives of such is debateable) and thus in 'world competitions' the Union Flag is seen as all-encompassing and inclusive.
In the Commonwealth Games, every qualifying nation, etc is invited to send competitors and then each nation, etc. can proudly carry its own flag.
Most of the nations of UK/GB seem content to compete under the Union flag when a separate national flag is not practical...........
