Are there any sports were men and women compete on an even keel against one another. Obviously running and strength based sports men will always be victorious but something like archery there would be no reason that they could not compete evenly. Does this happen in any major sporting events?

korfball ?
although thats using the term 'major' very loosely indeed.
The equestrian events they compete level.
On paper I would have thought that women and men should be able to compete evenly at, Darts, bowls, Snooker, Archery, shooting, ten pin bowling and more but innexplicably women are not the same standard as men, can't really explain why because non of them need strength particularly. There is also no reason why they can't compete in most motor racing events even Formula 1 but historically they don't.
There is an Olympic Yachting class that has mixed sex crews but I can't remember the name of it.

In other sports there are female jockeys in horse racing and there have been female F1 & Rally drivers. Michelle Wie tried & failed (I think) to compete on the men's Golf tour.

I can't think of any others off the top of my head although I'm sure there must be
