I am a Leeds fan, living in Somerset,if the ref was'nt sure, he was 25 yards away, then the linesman should have seen it.The tv camera was near to the linesman and clearly from that angle berbatov dived.
Being a Leeds fan does not make me unable to speak the truth without bias.

“...if Man U had not been awarded a penalty then Liverpool may have gone on to win.”
Very possibly. Or they may have gone on to lose five nil, or to draw six all. But since they didn’t manage to score in the remaining 88 minutes following the penalty it is difficult to see how your claim can be substantiated.
The “best team on the day” is the one which scores the most goals. Since the awarding of penalties is an integral part of the game which often leads to a goal being scored, then penalties contribute to determining which team is best.
There are no points awarded in football for style or effort. Only goals count.

I half agree, Steve. Very often (in many sports, not only fitba) the team or individual that plays "the best" does not win. However, that's sport. It seems, however, that football fans are among the most vociferous of the "we woz robbed" brigade.
I remember a long since deceased old friend of mine who was an avid QPR fan. His team had been thrashed 6-0 (by Arsenal in the Cup about ten years ago if I recall). His summary of the match (which was deadly serious) "They were six of the luckiest goals I've ever seen !"

As it stands the Refs decision is final (with help from the assist refs) so the techno part is irrelevant. (see Mr Blatter!) I hate the fact that diving (going to ground) has become so prominent part of the game but it has.
However the decision was made and the penalty stood simple as. Gerrard by the letter of law, should have walked.
simple fact: Man United 1-0 Liverpool ;-)
