Keeps Updating

I have Windows 7. Almost every time I open up, it is very slow and 'sticking' and it says it is updating. And when I close down, almost every time it says it will automatically close when it has finished updating. I think there is something wrong somewhere, why does it update almost every day ? Sometimes it says it cannot update everything, does this matter and how can I stop this jamming and updating almost every day ?? Not technical as you all know so easy answers please. thanks all.

By the way I usually use Firefox, but Internet Explorer is just as slow opening up and using.

I did that Chuck (the 'Fix it' , thanks, I rebooted, and it still said it was going to update when i switched off again yesterday.

How long do you wait before you shut it down? If you shut it before up dating it just continues after re-start

Dave I get no warning that it needs to update, but sometimes it runs very slow and I have noticed that there is a logo at bottom right of my screen which is sort of whizzing around, when I click on it, it says it is doing an update. Then when I eventually close down, there is a yellow exclamation mark in the 'shut down' box and it says it is going to update, and will close down automatically. It seems to be updating almost every time I close down, which it didn't used to do.

You need to repair your updates .
Click on start and type in the search bar Troubleshooting
When it opens click on the Troubleshooting bar
When it opens scroll down to fix problems with windows updates
Click on that and when it opens follow the prompts to start the repair.
