IE8 problems

Over the last couple of days I've noticed that tabs in IE8 are spontaneously being reloaded. There seems to be some sort of error reported (in the title bar) but it's not there long enough to read. This happens on both my home and work computers. It means that I have to keep re-entering the password on my webmail.

I've also found that video streaming seems to have stopped working.

Both machines are XP pro with McAffee AV.

I'm assuming that a recent MS/AV update has cause this. Any ideas?
