Norton Anti Virus

I've recently bought a new PC that came with a free 60 day trial of Norton Internet Security. I already had a subscription to Norton Anti Virus.

The Norton programme on the PC is currently saying my PC is at risk and when I open the programme it shows 54 days of subscription left (i.e. the 60 day free trial of NIS) and definitions 197 day old (i.e. when the PC was mnufactured probably). I can't find any reference to Norton Anti Virus and I'm wondering whether the PC is only 'seeing' Norton Internet Security, which I have tried to udate but keep getting 'some downoads failed to update' type messages.

Any ideas in plain English for a technophobe would be appreciated.

It might be that the free trial does not include updates – but I doubt it, since such a strategy would leave your PC open to new viruses.
It looks like for some reason your PC is not automatically updating with the Norton definitions.

You could try contacting Norton, and ask for their help – you might be lucky, especially if they take the view that you will purchase an alternative anti-virus program if they cannot sort your problem.

Besides asking Norton for assistance – I would start looking to install an up to date anti-virus program, given the potential harm a virus could inflict on your PC.

Go to the Symantec website and download their uninstaller and get rid of it and then download Avast Free Antivirus and use it you wont go wrong

Avast Free will not do such a good job as Norton (if you can sort it)
When it's running, what happens if you open the Norton Panel and click on Live Update?
Is there a special firewall installed? Maybe it's being blocked?
