Email attachments.

Hi, Can someone help and tell me why, when I am sent an attachment with an email, I cannot read it because it is all x's and y's scrambled up. [I have Norton and windows vista,] and I am not very technically minded,, thankyou, any help appreciated.

It sounds as if the attachment is written in a programme which your computer can't read because your programme versions are different?
