One hard drive 2 computers

Can I get a hub with 3 USB ports and a SWITCH on it then i can connect the External hard drive to the middle port via USB and each of the other ports to each computer via USB . And when using either computer use the switch to connect the desired computer

Or assuming all computers are connected to the same router use one of these (or similar)

Even if you did, you'd have to remember to "safely remove hardware" before switching. Much simpler would be to connect it to one of the computers and share it. That way, you'll always have access from either computer without any further outlay, or any complications.
^^ That's an answer to your question, not a comment on ChickenLicken's suggestion, which wasn't there when I started typing!

Or, If you happen to have a BT home hub you can plug the hard drive into the hub and access the files from all computers that way.

(as far as I know the BT home hub is the only router that offers this function)
