Recurrent problem with Advent pc (approx 15 mths old all-in-one type) running windows 7 home basic. 64bit previous 'fix' from Microsoft tech support no longer possible as last stages of the pathway/method no longer show. Previously followed this path
start/all progs/accessories/run type regedit ok
Hkey-local-machine/system/current control set/control/class

Haven't used DVD drive for months so didn't realise it had gone awol.
Also tried the trouble shooters but they all say drive not detected.
Probably worth checking under boot > cd drives in the BIOS too, but if it's not detecting any CD drive in the BIOS than nothing you do in windows is going to help.
It may be a simple case of the drive needs re-seating (unplugging and plugging in again) but it doesn't look like that would be a straight forward job on one of those! or it may be the drive is buggered.
Had used it before but tried again through the link still saying decice not found in simple terms the problem is the pc doesn't know it has a DVD/cd drive anymore...
tried that too its the details of the pathway in the original post then tried the uninstal option via control panel it suggests next but that does not give the folder for cd/dvd rom drives so I can't install or uninstall anything.
When you first turn it on you should (very briefly) see a message that say pres ** key to enter setup, you have to press that key at that point, if you see the windows logo you're too late. (common keys are delete, F1 or F2 on advents)
Then have a look about for anything to do with drive configuration and see if the DVD drive is lilted OK
It would help if yoou posted the full model number of the PC BTW.
It seems it's delete (not backspace!) to enter the BIOS, once there look under advanced > AHCI settings and AHCI port1 should show a CD drive detected.
