I got my new laptop all is well apart from one thing. Down in the right hand corner where you have the date and time etc there is that little flag, with a little red circle with a white cross in it. It is telling me that I have an important message regarding my firewall. Now when I follow the bits it says to when I select Turn on Window's Firewall it doesn't do anything. It also tells me my Firewall and Norton are not switched on, but Norton is on and is operational - basically what do I do to turn this on and have it working or will it be ok to tell it to stop telling me about it not being on?

Have you tried from the Windows Start Icon > 'Control Panel>System and Security>Windows Firewall>Turn Windows Firewall On or Off' and set the options to switch the Firewall on.

After you do this it may also be worth restarting your system.
If Norton has a firewall that will be used in place of the Windows one which will then be off.

Though Windows should be aware of that because it monitors other security software.

Not that some malware turns off firewalls and other security software so run a scan with say malwarebytes (and Norton) to see if you have any malware
(if you have Windows 8 then there is no start button but you can find the control panel by moving the mouse pointer to the bottom left corner and right-clicking, or you can use the search facility in the Charm sidebar to look for 'firewall')
