I have just been upgrading my PC and so purchased Windows XP (now installed) and Norton Personal Firewall (not yet opened packet). It would appear from the blurb with Windows XP that it comes with a firewall. Can anyone advise me whether the XP firewall is any good? Should I take the Norton Firewall back to PC World and get a 40 refund?

I'm not a computer guru, but I have XP and I'm not aware of any built-in firewall. I've installed a thhird-party one.
Windows XP certainly does have its own Firewall. It is not very configurable but try this site for starters: http://www.mishscript.de/ircguide/appb1.htm I would get a refund for your Norton Firewall which is just as rubbish. I would be more worried about viruses than someone hacking your machine, so try exchanging the Firewall for Norton anti-virus 2003.
