My battery only lasts about 90 minutes. I find it a pain to keep recharging. When recharging is complete you have to unplug from the mains, otherwise it knackers the battery. Dont know why but it does. After a while it only lasts for 15 minutes. I therefore took the battery out and only use the mains plug for power.

So it is OK to do that then. She says her laptop is better when run off the mains...it shouldn`t ,but that is what she says.
I know one should not recharge battery before it is empty, something to do with the memory in it.
Apparently ,one can calibrate ones battery to get it back the memory...keep meaning to give it a go...but I am a bit scared of messing about with this sort of thing.Has anyone else seen this?
you can just use the mains all the time if you want to no problems

sorry,I meant NOT to use laptop whilst charging.
You can run it of the mains but it won't be good for the battery. Batteries need to act like batteries and than means getting low on charge now and then.
I have always run my laptops off the mains and have never taken the battery out. When I do use it away from mains (in garden for example) it works perfectly well on battery power. I've never had to replace the battery or had it fry and burst into flames.
Klown is quite correct, you should take the battery out of the laptop if you are going to use the main adaptor to power your laptop. You should only use the battery if is not going to be plugged in at the mains.

Lol brain like a goldfish :)

I'm same as prudie - my laptop is connected to the mains, with battery 90% of the time.

When I do run it from the battery it works perfectly well for at least 6 hours normal browsing - it is 5 years old
Meant to add, it is perfectly okay to run a laptop via mains electricity with the battery out
I do the same hc, my battery doesn't last that long so I usually plug it in the mains. I keep meaning to have a look to replace it, but that is beyond my technical ability really.
