I purchased Norton security from Tesco last year and loaded it with no problems, I have got a message telling me there are only 12 days left to renew my subscription and I can do it online for £44.00. I can purchase Norton again from a store for £18.00 but not sure whether it will conflict with the present one on the computer, any advice appreciated, like to stay with Norton rather than "free" ones available.. thanks..

If it's the same product then it should uninstall the previous one and install over the top. Norton does have a reputation for being a bit of a pig to uninstall so I'd probably go that way In fact it's such a pig they do a tool to uninstall it https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us If you...

It is not good practice to have more than one security program installed on your computer, as they tend to conflict with each other and slow your computer. You could end up by frequently seeing warning messages from one program or the other and being constantly irritated by this "bickering" between the two (or more) systems. Settle on one program at a time, and if you don't like it, uninstall it and install another one.
That's expensive, my online renewal was £29.99...

Thanks, but as they both Norton just one version newer than the other will they get on or start "bickering"..

I thought it expensive well!!

By implication, the newer version must have something in it that the older version doesn't have, therefore each will see the other as an interloper, or something like that. As something "different", anyway, and you will probably see some conflict between them.

If you feel nervous - you could use that first and then install the new one
Get rid of Norton and put in MSE it is free and does everything Norton does. You need to actually remove Norton by using the removal tool.

Thanks everyone, prob go with Jake and remove old one and then install new one, can get the 2014 version for £18, how they want £44 from me to renew online makes no sense..
I have read that MSE isn't compatible with Win 8
You could go with MSE

If detecting 91.9% of malware is good enough for you

(Even AVG manages to beat that!)
MSE is already included with Windows 8, as part of Windows Defender.

The Microsoft Security Essential products was merged into Windows Defender and all new Windows 8 computers already come with Windows Defender installed and running.
That happened to me and they kept reminding me. I left it until the last minute and the price went down to £19.99 doing it online with Norton.
