Has Google Chrome Lost Its Shine
34 Answers
Yesterday I up-dated my Google Chrome and it resulted in a lot of Malware being downloaded along with the Browser.
I have always regarded Chrome as being a top-rate, back-up, to my favourite Firefox. However, I have now uninstalled the Google item and doubt that I shall ever do a re-installation or recommend the Browser to ABers.
It was Not straightforward to remove the Malware, which included the dreaded 'Conduit' along with others such as 'Bubbles Dock' 'Next Live' and 'Search Project'.
Anyway, I now have my Computer back in a good healthy state by having uninstalled Chrome, along with all that came along with it. It did involve entering the Control Panel to manually remove all items with the same date and then doing a scan with the free edition of Malwarebytes to discover and remove 20 Pups (Potentially Unwanted Programmes).

There are some interesting search Engines which I use, such as 'Duck Duck Go' and an excellent one with an unfortunate name of 'Dogpile'.

I haven't trusted google since it became an open secret that they scan every gmail (long before they admitted it), and the final straw as regards chrome was when it became necessary to log into google+ to install the add-on whose name can't be mentioned on AB; that was the clinching indication that their browser is for them to extract every bit of tracking info that they can.
Once my android phone contract ends in a couple of months I will finally be free of them.

I'm still with Google but I wasn't sure which was a decent browser to use. I like Youtube but recently I found that I can't leave any comments on the music because now you have to have Google+ so I don't bother now. I still have Bing as a search engine but I think that came with Conduit, which took me ages to get rid of.
ayg....I would recommend Firefox as the best browser : but I am prejudiced and am Not sure that methyl would agree with my choice :-

i also have been having serious problems with spyware and malware (see a previous post on how to get rid of chrome). i managed to uninstall it, with difficulty, and am now using firefox. however, i keep getting a little pop up asking to dowload a plug in to flash player to view media on several sites, including this one. i have tried to download this plug in without any success. on some websites it is impossible to view stuff without it which is a bit annoying. i don't like explorer either as it is forever freezing, i am rapidly coming to the conclusion that i dont like pc's much at all.
I think I have now got 'shot-of' everything to do with Google. Not easy because, whilst I removed Google Chrome as a Browser, I still had Google as the default Search engine in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I removed the the Google Search quite easily from Firefox but it kept returning all the time to Internet Explorer if I tried to put-in another Search Engine as the default.
All now solved. I have 'Bing' in Firefox; 'Duck Duck Go' in Internet Explorer;
'Yahoo' in Safari and the unfortunate named 'Dogpile' in Seamonkey.
Anything I think is reasonable to use as Browsers and Search Engines, providing Google is excluded.

@iloveglee...My apologies for having overlooked your pop-up problem and having rambled on about my Browsers and Search Engines.
You do need to have Flash Player for a number of sites. Have you been trying to download it from other than the official Adobe site. However I would advise you to take care and make sure that you un-tick the box which offers a free download of Google chrome along with the Flash Player.

I have downloaded flash player from the link HansUrbancka provided, the only optional extra was for McAfee which i unclicked as i dont like mcafee. there was nowhere i could see that asked if i wanted google chrome so i will now have to go and look to see if his downloaded it unbeknown to me. i shall wait and see now if i stop getting the requests to download anything else to enable me to view media. as it is not every website that requires it i may not know immediately.
