kat1 I'd be interested to hear from others too want to do the same. I want a laptop max £300 plus Microsoft Office. So far I have seen a Compaq model 15-a003sa for £279 from PC World which I am considering.
A Chromebook is worth looking at.
I bought a Lenovo Miix - still coming to grips with it!
boxtops - would you not recommend it, then?
How about something like this? You can still open the window/get fresh air coming in but the cat can't get out through the gap.

^ Ooops, wrong thread.
I wouldn't say that, edmund - it's just very different from the old Dell I've worked on for years, and the whole process of being mouseless, and whisking across pages, and not having a keyboard, is foreign to me....!
boxtops - It would be foreign to me as well - I want to be able to use a mouse and I'd also like to have a DVD slot as well.
Lots of choice, and prices are very attractive at the moment

but (shouts)

AVOID WINDOWS 8 LIKE THE PLAGUE
I recently bought an HP laptop from Argos from £349-00 and apart from I hate Windows 8 it's great.
What's the issue(s) with Windows 8, please?
It's the worst operating system in the history of the universe ever- turns your laptop into a giant mobile phone with apps for everything and you can't find anything naturally. I HATE it :(
I can recommend the following ASUS from Tesco's. It's £249 - I bought this a few months ago and I'm sure I paid £299 for it:

If windows 8 isn't your thing, you can get the start menu back with this:

I would recommend an ASUS as I have found them to be good quality.
