Malware Question

Apologies to anyone exasperated with my stupid questions.
How do I know if I have a malware programme on my computer?I know I have anti virus as there is a little icon at the bottom of the screen. With all this talk about this cyber attack thingie due in a couple off weeks I'm a tad concerned. Thank you.

Some anti virus software includes a malware scanner - what anti virus do you have?

Malwarebytes (free version) is what I and many others on here recommend.

you can download Malwarebytes from here (go for the free version)

It doesn't function all the time (unlike anti virus programmes like Avast) so it doesn't matter if you have a similar programme already installed, they shouldn't clash. Just do a short scan every week or so - more often if you think there are bugs about.
