Is It Possible To Upgrade My Laptop From Windows 8..

I like my Google browser but I am getting messages from some websites to say that my browser is out of date. I have Windows Vista 32bit laptop, I recently came on here regarding another problem and asked generally about this. I downloaded Windows 9 last year and tried to run it but my laptop became very hot and noisy so I reverted to Windows 8. I don't like Google Chrome it's so annoying with all the pop ups and adverts so I don't really want that either. I am using Mozilla Firefox for quite a lot of my work on here now and occasionally reverting to Windows 8. Just wanting to know if it's possible.

Windows is the operating system that the computer runs.
A browser is just a program that runs on Windows and a browser can be Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and so on.
And if you are getting pops ups and adverts when using Chrome I don't think that is anything to do with Chrome as I am sure many people use Chrome and don't get pop ups and adverts.
Perhaps you have visited a dodgy site (and I don't mean porn) that has download some nasty program that is displaying all these adverts and pop ups.

AYG - it's easy to get confused between the Operating System - eg Windows 8 - and the internet browsing program - which might be internet explorer, chrome, firefox etc.

First, check your computer for nasties. Your anti-virus program should be doing this, but if it's missed something, download the free malwarebytes and give it a go.
Use this link, make sure to choose the free download, and follow the instructions given.
You might find this then sorts the issue.
However, if you're being bothered with popups and adverts you need to run an adblocker program. These are accessed in different ways according to which browser you're using. I use chrome all the time with adblocker enabled, and never see an advert that I don't want.

Thanks mosaic, I understand it better now. I have (or supposedly have) McAfee, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. So I hope to catch any nasties first. My laptop is running ok at the moment did a quick scan yesterday. I may try Google Chrome again and look for an adblocker. Got to sign off for now I'll probably get back to AB maybe later tomorrow. Thanks again for your help.

If this is the case then you will have a conflict between the two programmes and should get rid of one of them. If you were to ask me 'Which one' I would say McAfee but not all Techies would agree with me.
Incidentally, I Do Not like Google Chrome as a Browser because it is deemed to be a real attraction for viruses and is tracking the movements of all who use it, also it is possible that it is stealing private information from your computer/laptop or whatever equipment one is using to access the Internet.

Thanks hans, I had my doubts about Chrome before, I have downloaded it but the first thing that popped up was a flashing notice that my drivers need to be updated. I haven't got around to using it yet. I have had MSE and Malwarebytes for a while, McAfee was added free by BT when I went on to their setup a few months ago. (whispering) I too have downloaded an adblocker. I have just had two security notices saying that a programme has been blocked by my security. So my feelings about Chrome may be

I've uninstalled Chrome. For the past hour I have had notices popping up that a programme called No Para-lells launched from a downloaded JNLP file has been blocked by my Security Settings. That is apart from the pop ups which say my drivers need updating. I did like Google and I'm sorry it doesn't work for me now.
AAAAggggh I do not have Chrome any more, but in the last hour on AB I have had two messages from my Security settings to say they have blocked an untrusted application downloaded from a JNLP file Para-lells. It keeps trying but at least my security is blocking it.

I've tried to uninstall java but had to cancel it has been 'gathering information' for the past hour and won't advance further than the last quarter of an inch to finish the 'gathering' so I've had to cancel to go to bed, I'll try again tomorrow. I don't actually know what Java does for my laptop, but the security notices made me sit up I haven't had them before. I think I've got the google/youtube thing confused with the Adobe flash player. So it wasnt Chrome to blame for that then. Thanks SlackAlice.
