Dell Computers?

I have recently had some repairs to my computer and have been told by a friend that the parts used were not DELL,when I contacted DELL I was told this was standard practice anyone confirm this please,my computer is working fine ,but my reason for all this is,if i want to add to my tower the parts going in will not be compatible,and will not fit,I have the feeling of being fobbed off by DELL any views on this?

I've used Dell for over 12 years and have had repairs done. As long as the machine is repaired by them then it's still under warranty. With regards to adding new hardware it's down to whether the MOBO is compatible anyway. Dell use what ever hardware is available as long as it is under their warranty.

I wouldn't expect Dell to use Dell parts when they first make the pc. These companies assemble the computers from parts supplied by major manufacturers, such as Seagate hard drives.

There is no such thing as a ''Dell Computer". The whole system is built of parts badged up as Dell.
Your hard drive isn't Dell because they dont make hard drives, they install a WD or a Samsung or a Seagate or whatever they have bulk purchased at the time.
Your optical drive will have a Dell badge on it but likewise they dont make optical drives ... Sony,Samsung, etc do.
So your whole system is created from various parts from various suppliers The system is built to Dell standards thats all. ... and nearly all parts are interchangeable and upgradeable, depending on specifications.

Dell prefer to use WDC HDD's nowadays.

Jordy, I reckon you may well be over-thinking this. I doubt if Dell actually make anything at all. They will have contracts with suppliers. Those contracts will often include badging components with the Dell logo.

They'll be industry-standard. There should be no issues with incompatibility. In general, anything they supply will be compatible with your machine, and certainly so with components added later.
