I have been using the free AVG antivirus system for some years now and had no particular problems, however I noticed that when I upgraded it at their suggestion few days ago, everything is running very slowly. A friend said he had the same problem of things slowing down with AVG and changed to another company product, also free. Any comments / suggestions please ??

@Buenchico....You are, as always, 100% correct. However, I take the view that Microsoft is being modest and perhaps over honest and MSE still has a lot going in its favour.

I recall that it must have been about 8/9 months back when you first mentioned that you had lost faith in AVG and had gone to Avast. I then tried Avast and did Not like it. Consequently, I am still placing my trust in MSE.

You may or may not agree that MSE is still a good AV programme and, if Internet users are careful about the sites which they visit, they will be well protected with MSE and Malwarebytes.

I only visit sites which WOT (Web of Trust) identifies with a green 'sticker'.

Recently, Computeractive did a whole feature titled "Software you must stop using NOW!"....and MSE was at the top of the list....described as "worse than useless".
Worse than useless. You mean they were implying it was installing virii !?!
Well, they said that the only thing "essential" about it, was that it shouldn't be used because it doesn't protect against viruses...but gives a false sense of security to those relying on it. So, presumably, that's why they regard it as worse than useless?
@gingejbee.....Please give me a link to where it is has been reported what you have published..........." @methyl.......Please dismiss me as perhaps being a bit thick because I am Not appreciative of what I am supposed to glean from the link which you have given.

Hans.
@Hans..my comments are taken verbatim from Computeractive magazine issue 427, and were repeated subsequently in other issues, including an "Anti-virus Megatest" in issue 430....I subscribe, so have hard copy rather than links to internet pages.
@gingejbee.....I understand what you are saying. :-)

@SlackAlice....Methyl's link does Not contain any PDF as does yours. Subtle difference between them :-

Looks as if I now have some reading to do. :-)
