Help With Yahoo E Mail On Apple

2 things bugging me at the moment, I can never seem to get onto my e mails first time when I use the yahoo login, this is really irritating, then recently once I am logged on the format of the page has changed and a banner above says I need to update my browser to get the more streamlined version, but it doesn't tell me how to do this. Please any advice for this non computer savvy being.
