Is Anyone Installing Windows 10 Today?
From today, July 29th, Microsoft is giving a free Windows 10 upgrade to users of Windows 7 and 8. This offer is open for 12 months.
Windows 10 gets great reviews, but so did Vista and Win 8, both of which are now widely agreed to be dogs.
I've got Win 7 Ultimate, which isn't bad, so will wait and see for a while.
Mrs V has Win 8, so I'm going to upgrade in a few weeks after checking initial reactions - nothing can be worse than Win 8!
What are other Abers doing.
What are you doing Ab Editor , on your little concrete computer?

Windows 10 installed . Looks good. Already noticeably smoother and quicker. No keyboard lag on here for a start. If you have got pre booked W10 and you cannot wait, it would seem that your upgrades will come at the intervals you have your maint prog. set for. This morning I asked for Microsoft updates 3 times whilst online and downloaded all available. Mine are usually done auto every Sun morn. Was out all afternoon then a trip to the local. When I got in (about7.30) the upgrade was there so t for it. It looks great. This is the first place I visited on completion after a few quick looks. Now to check my iTunes and photo files. Bed early and sort my personal settings and teach it to swear.
It is pretty cool. iTunes all in order, it has recognised my wireless printer and my wireless audio in homegroup. Yeach the kids to dis me. I have a big question for the real techies (I am not one ) that I will post in a separate thread. I will not be in a hurry for the answer but am sure someone will know.
Well I must admit I love this. Set up the account for 'she who must be obeyed' early this morning, so that she could have a run through it before she left for work. She loves it too. Once you have set up your themes and preferred background colours nothing has changed drastically. But it is so much smoother than w8 for keyboard and wireless mouse. Love the new tiles layout, may have a look at what 'edge' is all about later. AB layout looks a bit tired compared to other sites now and needs speeding up. Ed.
I've finally got the little logo and reserved Win 10, but it took most of yesterday!
You have to have all updates installed. I turned off Windows update ages ago, and there were 219 updates Took ages with lots of rebooting. Then I was told I had to have Service Pack 1, so downloaded it, burned to DVD and installed that. Meanwhile, more updates appeared - more downloads / reboots!
Then it failed my application because it couldn't see Sp1.
I waited a couple of hours and the icon appeared all by itself.
All my fault. Mrs V's new Dell laptop with Win 8 - no trouble at all.
just hope Win 10 is as good as they say - I remember Vista getting rave reviews...

Ok this should work for everyone
1. Keep tapping windows update till all the non Win 10 updates are finished.
2. Go to windows/softwaredistribution/download and delete everything in that folder.
3 Go to start/ all programs/ accessories and right click on command prompt and select as administrator.
Then type in wuauclt.exe/updatenow and hit enter
The download should then start.
Make sure you backup all your personal stuff to be safe.
