Windows 10 - Speed And Apps
I recently installed Windows 10 on my computer and now it seems to be running considerably more slowly. Are Apps to blame ? Would it not be better to simply go to website and not clog up the computer? Any thoughts please?

After any new installation a major clean up is always needed eg you may have as many as 3 browsers.
Is your computer really up to running Windows 10? (Don't think that just because Microsoft said that your PC could handle it that it really can!)
Check your basic system information. (The video below explains how to do it).
The processor speed needs to be 1GHz or higher to run Windows 10 but I certainly wouldn't to try running it with a processor speed below 2GHz.
If the information panel shows that you're running a 32-bit system, the RAM needs to be at least 1GB (but 2GB is probably the minimum for W10 to run well). If you've got a 64-bit system you need at least 2GB of RAM (but 4GB would be better).
Then check how much spare disk space you've got. (Computers will always run slowly when there's only limited space. Windows 10 is a massive download and leaves loads of temporary files on your computer so that you can, if you so choose, revert to W7 or W8, as appropriate). To do so, press the Windows key together with E, then click on 'This PC'.
If you've got very little disk space left you can delete the temporary Windows files to free up some space (but that will mean that you won't be able to go back to W7 or W8).
Many computers that now have W10 on them aren't really well-enough specified for the task and their owners would be well-advised to revert to their older version of Windows. Perhaps yours is one of them?

Just because an App (or any program) is installed on your computer it does not affect the computers performance.
Only if an App or program is actually RUNNING may it affect performance.
You could have 500 apps installed on your computer (but none of them running) and it wont affect the performance.
How old is your computer?
How much RAM memory has it got?
What version of Windows did you upgrade from ?
Many people say W10 actually runs faster than older versions of Windows so it is a surprise you say yours is running slower.
How full is you hard disk? A full hard disk CAN affect performance as Windows like some space on a hard disk to help it run better.
Having the Win.old files on your computer will not slow it down as this is just all the files needed to go back to your previous release of Windows if you want to, so it is not actually running or affecting performance.

I certainly didn't expect such comprehensive and knowledgeable replies to my question about Speed & Apps on Windows 10. Thank you so very much CrapAtCryptics, Buenchico and VHG for taking the trouble to post such long replies, and for the link to the video. It will be Easter weekend now before I can really get down to asking myself the questions and acting on the advice but I really appreciate your support. Thanks again.
