Gmail On My Pc?

When I bought an android phone this year I opened up a Gmail account to collect emails from yahoo gmx. This has worked fine. At some point I must have done something to get email addresses imported into the Google Contacts, but it does not have all my addresses. I cant remember how I did this??? A quick search on Google suggests its best to use a PC to "clean up contacts" and have them ready to get imported. When I used my laptop to access Gmail I was initially taken to my Google account page. I clicked on the button to add apps and selected Gmail. When I entered my gmail address it said this address is already taken - yes by me? As I already have gmail on my phone, and thus a gmail address, can anyone tell me how to access this account on my laptop, and how to import email addresses in my yahoo and gmx address books. Thanks

just an update. I've made some progress. Ive manage to open uo contacts in google on my pc and have attempted to export contacts from yahoo. My Yahoo emails shows 107 addresses but only 65 were exported. I have no idea why it has missed out the others. Any ideas anyone? Thanks
